Fermeuse Wind Power Project

Elemental acquired the 27 MW Fermeuse project in December 2009. The project was originally developed by SkyPower and began commercial operation in July 2009 with a long-term power purchase agreement with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.

Role: Elemental owns and operates the Fermeuse Wind Power Project.


PROJECT STATS

  • The project is comprised of nine 3.0 MW Vestas wind turbines

  • Fermeuse is located in the southeast corner of Newfoundland

  • The project provides enough electricity for approximately 6000 households

  • Site services are supplied by Vestas Canada and enXco

BOX CANYON HYDRO CORP.

With business partner Sound Energy Inc., Elemental Energy through its subsidiary Box Canyon Hydro Corp., is currently planning the development of the Box Canyon power plant on the northwest side of Howe Sound on BC’s Sunshine Coast.

Role: Elemental is developing the Box Canyon power plant with our partner, Sound Energy Inc.

PROJECT STATS

  • The 15MW run-of-river power plant will be located on Box Canyon Creek near Port Mellon, BC

  • The site contains over 500 metres of hydraulic head and is near a 138kV British Columbia Transmission Corporation power line

  • Transportation to the site is relatively easy with tide water access and a logging road infrastructure already in place

  • The plant will be developed to meet or exceed all environmental requirements from both provincial and federal governments

PARADIGM TECHNOLOGIES

Paradigm Environmental Technologies Inc. is a private Vancouver company that has developed MicroSludge®, a patented technology to effectively process wastewater at municipal sewage treatment plants and industrial facilities. MicroSludge is a powerful, compact system that liquefies waste activated sludge, boosting a plant’s ability to convert sludge to biogas, and reducing the amount of biosolids for disposal.

Role: Elemental is an investor in and strategic advisor to Paradigm Technologies.

  • MicroSludge combines two simple processes to break up bacterial cells that make up the bulk of waste activated sludge, which effectively increases throughput capacity at existing waste water treatment plants

  • MicroSludge is modular and can be easily used at existing waste water treatment facilities

  • This technology can be used to process industrial waste, including pulp and paper waste

  • MicroSludge is a fully commercially available product with over six years of development and performance verification by CH2M HILL and EarthTech

ARBUTUS BIO-ENERGY

Arbutus Bio-Energy is a private company formed in 2009 with a mandate to develop, acquire and operate biomass electricity generation facilities in North America. Based out of Scottsdale, Arizona, Arbutus is actively developing projects in Arizona and California with a combined capacity of over 80 MW. Arbutus also seeks acquisitions of operating facilities in the Western United States.
